We will be taking the plunge.
Due to our financial situation we have now been pushed into making the plunge into moving to our land, this is actually a blessing however as it will get us moving ahead.
We have at the least three months more of being able to live in this house, after that we are unsure of the time period. However in that time we can be spending more money on getting the place going. We are progressing nicely on the barn but it is still a ways from finished, however we do have running water,HOT water,a flushing toilet and cooking facilities.... We do need to finish insulating and it would be nice to have something nicer to walk on than OSB subfloors but we could manage I guess. Wife makes good money for here(although nothing like she made before-part of the reason for our financial situation) but hates the drive, the BS at work and generally is burned out. As for me,my job is there to provide very little money(ahhh, the joys of working in Food and Beverage) but as of this time does give me weekends off. We might be able to rent the house out for $900/month but it would be short term and the house is going back to the bank....no ifs ands or buts about it. I am unsure as to what to do,make the leap NOW and go up there and get things done, pay the guy who has been working on the place to finish up things,or what..... |
Re: We will be taking the plunge.
If you're handy and the loss of your income won't really matter, then doing the work yourself may be better than paying someone to do it for you. If that's not the case and he's faster at doing the work than you'd be, then letting him do it, while you still work, may be better.
Maybe it's better to use your talents preparing everything else for the move. Wifey has to keep working even though she may be burned out as that appears to be your only income. As to whether to leap now or later, that is decided by if you are prepared enough to live on the land or not. Clear thought is required, not emotions. |

We need fencing, coops, etc, etc before we could have a homestead going. The thing about clear thought is,it is logical to wait and gather funds together to be able to do it,but then again every minute not spent there is a minute lost. Sometimes just saying 'Damn the torpedoes' is the right response. Thanks for your thoughts. |

Maybe fate is trying to rush you along for a reason and you should not fight it?

Thanks all.
We are planning on leaving as soon as possible once things are finished a little more up there. The one thing constantly repeated on survival type forums is to be living AT your bugout location instead of having to try and get there. |

Advice rarely taken, I might add. Good luck with your move. |

We live 4 plus hours away from our place and to get there in that time requires using interstates and passing several military bases as well as some pretty severe bottlenecks. The chances of us realistically making it there are slim if we REALLY needed to. |

Re: We will be taking the plunge.
yes best wishes to ya Oz
I think going to your land ASAP is a good idea. the sooner you get there the sooner you can start on the stuff you can do. Like chicken coops and gardens and stuff. OSB floors aren't so bad.. but you need water.. No well? those can be expensive depending on where you are (water depth and soil type) maybe a storage tank? |
